Sustainability
We know how sustainability is increasingly important.
Running Africa Health gives us lots of opportunities to improve our impact environmentally, socially and economically in our region. We want to make the event more responsible and play a role in helping the market improve its own sustainability through connecting people with the networks and knowledge they want to help solve the big challenges in the healthcare sector.
Better stands and sustainable options
At Africa Health, we are committed to delivering a sustainable event for both exhibitors and attendees. Disposable, single-use stands account for around 80% of the total waste from our event,which is why we are launching the Better Stands programme.
Better Stands is about moving away from the use of disposable stands to not only vastly reduce waste, but also improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibitor experience at our events.

1. Help our markets by inspiring sustainable development
- Africa Health prioritizes sustainable industry development, with last year's theme focusing on quality education for healthcare excellence.
- Plans include integrating sustainability topics across all tracks and features
- Content addresses key challenges in African healthcare, prioritizing sustainability.
- Featured discussions cover topics like local medicine manufacturing, AI for healthcare access, youth and women in Medtech, and sustainable digital health solutions.
2. Run the event in an increasingly environmentally responsible manner
- All exhibitor stands are expected to meet the bronze level criteria in the Better Stands Program, which focuses on using reusable systems such as display materials and fixtures. This not only reduces waste but also promotes sustainability within the event.
- We use digital badges instead of traditional lanyards and paper badges to minimize physical waste. This approach is more environmentally friendly and aligns with our commitment to sustainability.
- The event is powered by renewable sources of electricity, such as solar or wind power. This choice reduces our carbon footprint and contributes to a more sustainable event.
- Transportation for all speakers, VIPs, and staff is done in groups using shuttle buses to minimize the impact of attendees' travel.
3. Run the event in a socially responsible manner
- At Africa Health, we're committed to empowering local charities to drive meaningful change in healthcare. Organizations like Flying for Life, the Mobile Health Clinics Foundation, AMREF Health Africa, and MSF Doctors Without Borders exemplify this ethos.
- Last year, we hosted the Innov8 Startup Competition, spotlighting Africa's emerging startups and fostering innovation. Partnering with Founders Factory Africa, the continent's leading startup accelerator, we amplified our impact.
- We were able to successfully implement and measure the impact of at least one significant initiative to ‘Connect the Disconnected’, removing barriers to our networks and knowledge.
